Honda CR-V

Introduction

What Car? says...

The Power of Dreams. As slogans go, surely Honda's counts as one of the best. We love to dream, after all, and when it comes to the Japanese manufacturer, that could mean a superbike, a thumping great motor for your speedboat, a supercar – or a Honda CR-V.

We’re not suggesting the CR-V will have you dribbling into your pillowcase with desire as profusely as a Civic Type R or Honda NSX. It is a large SUV, though, and everyone loves those right now – except environmentalists, perhaps, but when you tell them the CR-V has no ‘dirty’ diesel engines and you can buy it only with a petrol-electric hybrid, they might be won over.

The CR-V is not a plug-in hybrid, so you can’t top up the battery then run around for miles on end using electricity alone, but, as we’ll talk about later in this review, pairing a petrol engine with some electrical assistance does make this big SUV surprisingly efficient and affordable to run.

This review isn’t about the Power of Dreams, though. It’s about dealing with the day-to-day realities, like running costs and practicality, handling, whether the interior will be comfortable for family holidays and more.

We'll also tell you how the Honda CR-V compares on those key points with its rivals. After all, there are some excellent large SUV alternatives out there, including the Citroën C5 AircrossFord KugaKia SorentoPeugeot 5008Toyota RAV4 and VW Tiguan (and seven-seat Tiguan Allspace). So keep reading as we reveal all.

When you’re done reading, how would you fancy some money off your next new car, whatever make and model you decide is right for your needs? We can help you with that, too.
